Abstract. The article considers the problem of stabilization and ensuring the stability of the foundations of approach embankments of bridge structures.
The authors present the results of an analysis of the applied technologies of volumetric stabilization and reinforcement of soil massifs during the construction of transport facilities. Special attention is paid to the methods and technologies used at the construction sites of Avtodor Group of Companies. It is established that the choice of technology depends on the type of soil, its properties and design loads, the size of the soil mass, the timing of consolidation, the technological capabilities of contractors, the seasonality of work, etc. Approaches to bridges are often designed in difficult hydrogeological conditions characterized by high groundwater levels and, as a result, a high degree of water saturation, low strength and deformation characteristics.
The article proposes a method for treating the water-saturated clay soil at the base of an approach embankment with lime piles formed through pre-drilled wells in casing pipes. To study the interaction of quicklime with water-saturated clay soils, a physical model was created, which investigated the effect of a single lime pile on the change in the physico-mechanical properties of clay soils over time. According to the data of the conducted physical experiment, after lime treatment, clay soil significantly reduces humidity (by 8,1 %), the yield index (transition from a fluid consistency to a refractory one), while the angle of internal friction increases significantly (from 15 to 29°), the relative deformation under operating loads decreases (by 2,5–2,9 times) and the odometric modulus of deformation increases 2,7 times. The results of physical modeling show a significant improvement in the deformation and strength characteristics of the base, thereby substantiating the effectiveness and prospects of using this method of base stabilization in the construction of transport infrastructure facilities.
