Abstract. When designing, constructing, and subsequently operating transportation routes on high-speed railway lines, the most critical task is ensuring the reliability of the structure’s foundation. A major challenge in constructing high-speed rail lines in designated areas is the presence of weak soils in the foundations of structures, as well as a large number of natural obstacles.

The development of transport infrastructure, whether railway or road networks, requires a balanced approach to selecting structural, technological, and organizational solutions. A key aspect is economic feasibility-achieving optimal or near-optimal efficiency for each specific project, taking into account the specifics of the engineering structure and the region where it is located. This entails a thorough analysis of multiple factors, including geological conditions, climatic features, engineering-geological surveys, and the prediction of potential deformations in the foundations of transport structures. Predicting the deformability of soil foundations is a critically important stage.

Measures to ensure the stability of the soil foundation can vary. These may include soil reinforcement through deep compaction methods (e.g., vibrocompaction, vibroflotation), the installation of various types of pile foundations (pile fields, bored piles, screw piles), the use of geosynthetic materials (geotextiles, geogrids) for soil reinforcement and increased bearing capacity, as well as various methods of chemical soil stabilization.

In this research article, the authors address the issue of reinforcing the subgrade foundation composed of weak soils using vertical crushed stone columns, using a section of the planned high-speed railway line 1 Moscow — St. Petersburg as an example.
