Abstract. In the context of rapid urbanization and population growth in large cities of the Russian Federation, the transport system is becoming one of the key factors determining the quality of life of citizens, economic efficiency and environmental safety. Inefficient functioning of the transport infrastructure leads to a number of negative consequences, including traffic congestion, increased travel time, environmental pollution, and reduced accessibility to jobs and social facilities. In this regard, the development and implementation of scientifically based approaches to the development of transport systems that take into account the complexity of modern problems is a very relevant scientific and practical task. This study is aimed at systematizing and analyzing key aspects that need to be taken into account when forming strategies for the development of transport systems in Russian megacities in order to increase their sustainability, efficiency and comfort for the population.

The article examines current trends and problems specific to transport planning in the country’s largest cities. Special attention is paid to the integration of various modes of transport, including its development, rationalization of the route network and the introduction of intelligent transport systems. The article analyzes foreign and domestic practices of traffic management, as well as methods of stimulating the use of public transport and non-motorized modes of transportation. As a result of the study, comprehensive recommendations are proposed aimed at the balanced development of transport infrastructure, which will help reduce the negative impact on the environment and improve population mobility, forming the basis for the sustainable development of Russian megacities in the long term.
