Abstract. The article considers the main methods and techniques for strengthening, improving the strength characteristics and stability of foundation soils, widely used in engineering and construction practice. The main goal of the research is a systematic analysis of existing technological solutions that allow increasing the strength and stability of soils used in foundations of buildings and structures for various functional purposes. Furthermore, the authors provide a review of advanced scientific and technical achievements in the field of strengthening measures, focusing on promising directions of technology development, such as biological methods based on the introduction of microorganisms and various representatives of flora (botany) that improve the structure and properties of the soil mass, as well as new construction materials and additives capable of significantly enhancing the structural characteristics of weak and unstable soils. The physical-mechanical and chemical processes occurring during compaction, mechanical mixing, thermal stabilization, freezing, thawing, electroosmosis, lowering of the groundwater level, soaking, silicatization, cementation, resin formation, carbonization, bituminization, electrochemical stabilization, soil replacement, reinforcement, using retaining structures, lightweight foundations and drainage systems, as well as innovative methods, including bio-soil strengthening, are described. Examples of successful application of these methods at various construction sites are provided. Particular attention is paid to covering the greatest number of technologies for improving the condition of foundation soils. Mechanical, physical, chemical and structural methods of foundation soil stabilization and strengthening are considered. Conclusions are drawn about the importance of considering the features of the geological structure of the site and the operating conditions of the structure when choosing a method for improving foundation soils.
