Abstract. The problems of railway engineers training under modern conditions are discussed. It is noted that the quality of education system, especially higher one, begins to be strongly dependent on the technologies and methodologies of training. On the one hand, our engineering education was as excess both by extent and volume of information received, but, on the other hand, it is its property and provided it sufficient stability. But the extent of our engineering education is obtained due to oversaturation with «natural science» and «humanitarian» disciplines. However increase in «fundamentality» is aimed at training of professionals who are strongly attracted by the scientific sector of employment, that practically is not supported by the state. Hereafter the article presents the qualitative and emotional evaluation of the higher road and bridge educational status in Russia. It is noted that the financial situation of teachers in high schools, who train railway engineers, leaves much to be desired, material facilities of sub-departments became obsolete, educational literature is old and does not reflect the new regulations, new technologies and new materials. The trend towards amalgamation of the road and bridge sub-departments leads to expansion of variety of disciplines taught by the employees of sub-department, wherein many of them have no notion of teachings. Then, the article discusses the necessity of quantitative assessment of the higher road — bridge education status in Russia and offers a plan of actions. In the concluding part of article the activities on the improvement of the higher road and bridge education in Russia are proposed. These include the following: development of the proposed algorithm program; development of the ideal administering sub-department structure in the field of transport construction; creation of periodical literature which would discuss the training of specialists. It is proposed to provide for grants for teachers to travel abroad for the purpose of studying the foreign design, building and teaching experience and consider directions for attracting the university sub-departments to the development of research in the field of transport construction.
