Abstract. The article presents possibilities of protecting transport tunnels from the frost heaving of soil by methods of reducing impact of heaving forces and methods of perception of these effects by the building structures. The most optimal method was defined as that based on the calculation of building structures. The impact of tangential and normal forces of frost heaving on the construction of transport tunnel was analyzed. The distribution of typical zones of the soil freezing beyond the wall of embedded structure, as well as components of the soil frost heaving forces acting in these zones are shown in this article. In general terms the authors present a procedure of solving problem of determining efforts in the tunnel constructions from the normal forces of frost heaving, acting on the building wall. The solution includes a definition of normal forces of frost heaving, account of the action non-uniformity of normal heaving forces and calculation of efforts resulting in structures. In case of one-dimensional (vertical) freezing the normal horizontal forces are determined with due consideration of the heaving anisotropy and anisotropy factor. In case of non-one-dimensional (bilateral) freezing — from the daylight surface and through the wall — the normal horizontal forces of frost heaving have values comparable with the vertical ones. The summing action on the wall of embedded structure is composed of horizontal pressure of the normal forces of frost heaving and soil pressure.
